Tree Trimming
Why We Trim
Trees
It's the
law
State law
requires LMUD to keep clearance between high-voltage
power lines and all vegetation.
Public
Safety
Maintaining
those required clearance helps keep people from being
injured if they climb or work in trees next to power
lines.
Fire Safety
Trimming
trees to maintain required clearances prevents them
from touching
high-voltage power lines, which can start fires. (Lower-voltage,
phone and
cable TV lines - lower on the utility pole - don't require
cleaning, because
they present little or not fire hazard.
Reduce
Outages
Keeping power
lines clear helps keep your power on.
Here's how
you can help
Never trim trees near power lines yourself.
Call LMUD first!
- Contact
LMUD at 257- 4174 BEFORE trimming
any trees near powerlines.
We can arrange to de-energize the lines or, in some cases, arrange
for
our crews to perform the work.
- Allow LMUD access to trees when trimming
is necessary on our system.
- Don't plant trees under or near overhead
power lines.
- Clear flammable plants at least 30 feet around
your home. It will help your
house survive a wildfire and it's required by law.
Homeowner
Liability
Failure to
allow a utility company to comply with the law can result
in liability
to the homeowner for damages or injuries resulting from
a vegetation hazard.
Many insurance
companies do not cover these types of damages if the
policy owner has refused to allow the hazard to be eliminated.
