| Underground Equipment
Clearances
Residential and Commercial
Areas
Whether your neighborhood
gets power through overhead or underground lines, our line crews
need to be able to reach areas quickly and safely in the event of
an outage or for routine maintenance. Keeping clear access to
utility electric equipment gives line crews the room to perform
inspections and repairs—and keeps everyone safe.
CLEARANCE
REQUIREMENTS
LMUD Code requires 8 foot
of clearance in front of the utility enclosure door and 3 foot
from all other sides.
Overhead
lines --
keep branches clear of lines
If you live in a neighborhood with overhead power lines, keep an
eye on tree branches that come too close to the power lines. If
you see a branch that is growing close, please call (530)
257- 4174. We’ll
dispatch personnel to assess the situation. Please DON’T try
to trim the branch yourself until first contacting LMUD.
Underground
lines --
Remember the 8 foot rule
Neighborhoods and commercial developments built in the past several
years receive electric service through underground power lines.
LMUD line crews gain access to these lines through the vaults or
other padmented enclosures found near the street and in public utility
easements. To ensure easy access, Lassen Municipal Utility District
Code requires eight feet of clearance in front of the utility enclosure
door and three feet from all other sides.
Avoid
common mistakes
Although it is tempting to landscape around ground mounted utility
equipment, please remember that the state requires our line crews
to inspect the utility equipment periodacally. And, if there’s an
emergency or outage, line crews need immediate access.
Planting
for safety
Our goal is to make it easy for you to maintain clearances around
power lines and ground mounted equipment. Please call if you have
questions about landscaping near utility facilities. Our staff is
available to talk with you or to come to your home to help you decide
how to plant trees for the greatest safety and energy savings. |
