LMUD offers assistance to those in need

Lassen Municipal Utility District understands that, from time to time, some of our customers may need assistance in meeting their utility bill. That is why we offer a variety of programs and resources to help during difficult financial times.

Winter Energy Assistance Rate:

WEAR is a rate assistance program that provides a discount to income eligible customers. Enrollment in WEAR is begins on October 1 and ends on April 1, assistance is not retro-active. Emergency Energy Assistance Program (EEAP):

Unexpected financial hardships can strike just about any household. If you find yourself unable to pay your utility bill or you are in danger of disconnection, EEAP may be able to help. EEAP is administered by the local Susanville Salvation Army – they can be reached at 530-257-0314, or you may visit their office located in the Susanville Grocery Outlet Shopping Center.

COVID-19 Supplemental Emergency Energy Assistance:

In order to alleviate some of the financial burden caused by the current pandemic, LMUD has allocated funds to help customers who have suffered a decrease in wages due to circumstances caused by COVID-19 response. The program offers financial assistance to households whose income has been decreased by at least 30% on or after March 25, 2020 due to lay-offs, reduction in working hours and business closures. Once qualified, funds will be applied directly to the customers electric bill. The program is funded by LMUD and administered through the Susanville Salvation Army. Low Income Home Energy  Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is funded by the Federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and provides two basic types of services.

Eligible low-income persons, via local governmental and nonprofit organizations, can receive financial assistance to offset the costs of heating and/or cooling homes, and/or have their homes weatherized to make them more energy efficient.

Locally, LIHEAP is administered by Lassen Economic Development Corporation located in Westwood California. They can be reached by calling 530-256-3531. Applications may also be picked up at the local Social Security office, Alliance for Workforce Development and the City of Susanville.
