At Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD), the communities we serve are at the heart of everything we do. Founded in 1986 by Lassen County residents, our mission is to serve our community above all else. We own and operate electric infrastructure to meet our residents’ needs. Every dollar we collect is invested in operating and maintaining the system that delivers reliable electricity to your homes and local businesses.
Serving you with reliable and safe energy is essential, but it’s not the only way we serve you. As a community-owned utility, we invest in the people we serve. From rate assistance to scholarships to rebates, we offer something for everyone.
Our Winter Energy Assistance Rate (WEAR) and our Emergency Energy Assistance Program (EEAP) are designed to assist income-eligible customers when they need it most. WEAR provides a discounted electricity rate from October through April when energy use is at its highest. EEAP is a 1-time payment that can help customers who are faced with an unexpected reduction in income and help them avoid an interruption in service.
1 of the benefits of being served by a community-owned utility is access to energy-saving rebate programs. LMUD offers a suite of rebates ranging from Energy Star-compliant appliance purchases to electric vehicles and chargers.
Our commercial rebate program helps business customers save energy and money by providing a large variety of incentives. 1 of the most popular programs is SmartLight, which replaces outdated fluorescent lights with new, energy-efficient LED lighting. If you are a business customer and don’t know where to start, our energy experts provide free guidance and make suggestions on what measures are right for you.
Giving back to the community doesn’t end with rate assistance and rebates. We have dedicated funds to support local youth, nonprofit organizations, and local events. The Youth Sponsorship Program allows youth-oriented groups to apply for a once-a-year grant of up to $300 to help offset the cost of group activities. The Lassen MUD Community Scholarship Program provides $3,000 to graduating seniors and returning college students. The deadline to apply is April 30. Recipients are announced in June. This year, we are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems to offer an additional $2,500 scholarship. LMUD also participates in the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce Spring Show, Far NorCal Science Bowl, Lassen County Office of Education Children’s Fair, Lassen County Office of Education Sober Graduation, Susanville’s Farmers Market, and Lassen County Fair Parade.
