Serving Our Community
As a publicly owned utility, our mission is to serve our community. We do this by providing safe, reliable power at the most reasonable cost. We also offer scholarships, support community organizations, and participate in community events.
At the May 28 board meeting, we presented Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD) Community Scholarships to Lassen Union High School seniors Taylor McElhaney and Natalia Hernandez. This is our 11th year offering scholarships. We are proud to foster continuing education.
Taylor will attend Lassen Community College in the fall to pursue her dream of becoming a sonographer. Natalia will study biology at Chico State University.
Kailie Shoemaker, a Chico State student pursuing a degree in social work and human services, also earned a scholarship.
Our team participated in the Fletcher Walker Elementary egg drop event in Westwood in May. Lineman Raul Faustino, Public Relations Manager Theresa Phillips, and Customer Service Manager Christina Nystrom joined more than 100 students to see who built the sturdiest egg carrier.
Raul took each entry with him as he lifted the bucket more than 40 feet in the air. 1 by 1, he dropped the carriers. Some eggs survived, and some didn’t. 1 thing is for sure, everyone had a great time.
While in Westwood, Theresa and Christina talked to local merchants about LMUD’s commercial rebates and direct-install energy-efficiency programs. Going to customers to discuss how we can help them save money and use energy wisely is a direct result of our mission to serve our community. Program information is available on the LMUD website.
This summer, you’ll find our employees in the Lassen County Fair Parade, the Westwood Fourth of July Parade, the Susanville Farmers Market, and other events.
The LMUD Customer Appreciation Celebration is on August 29. Meet LMUD staff and board members while enjoying our famous quarter-pound, all-beef hot dogs from 11 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. in our parking lot at 50 North Gay Street. We’ll have giveaways, including a chance to win 1 of 3 $100 LMUD energy gift cards.
