At Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD), we live by our core values: transparency, integrity, sustainability, teamwork, and safety. We strive to demonstrate these values each day. May is National Electrical Safety Month, a time for us to reflect on our core value of safety. I’m proud to say our team is committed to making safety a top priority. Whether in the field or in the office, ensuring the safety of our employees and the community we serve is essential to our work.
National Electrical Safety Month is a campaign led by the Electrical Safety Foundation International to promote safe practices at home and work. Each year, ESFI creates resources and undertakes outreach efforts to help reduce electrically related fires, fatalities, injuries, and property loss. This year’s campaign includes education on e-mobility, lithium-ion battery safety, and disaster preparedness.
We encourage you to take a moment to review the safety tips on the ESFI website or on our social media channels. Simple steps such as checking cords and outlets, unplugging appliances when not in use, and calling 811 before you dig can prevent accidents. Our crews are also doing their part: trimming trees, replacing aging equipment, and educating students about power line safety. Working together, we can keep our homes and neighborhoods safe.
RP3 Gold Recognition
I’m also proud to share that LMUD has been recognized by the American Public Power Association with the Reliable Public Power Provider Gold designation. The RP3 program recognizes utilities that demonstrate proficiency in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. To earn the designation, public power providers must meet rigorous industry benchmarks, including sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to delivering safe and reliable electricity.
This honor reflects the dedication of LMUD’s board and staff, who work around the clock to maintain our system and respond quickly when issues arise. It also underscores the benefits of public power: local control, accountability, and reinvestment in our community.
