Lassen Municipal Utility District's (LMUD) Agricultural Pump & Line Programs Help Local Farmers and Ranchers Save
Lassen County has a rich history rooted in agriculture. Our local ranchers and farmers work hard throughout the year to provide essential commodities for our community, state, and nation.
California produces more than a third of the country’s vegetables and more than 3/4 of its fruits and nuts. In Lassen County, the focus is on beef and alfalfa. Local landscapes are filled with cattle and green fields, which are part of the statewide $4.76 billion industry.
As you drive through the county, you will likely see rows of pivot lines. A pivot line, also called waterwheel and circle irrigation, is a method of crop irrigation in which equipment rotates around a central point, and crops are watered with sprinklers. These lines require water, often pumped from irrigation wells. Wells require pumps to move water, and the pumps require a fuel source, such as diesel or electricity. Many Lassen County ranchers and farmers use electricity to pump water. That’s where Lassen Municipal Utility District’s Premium Efficiency Pump Program comes into play.
Many pumps in our service territory are outdated and inefficient. The LMUD program incentivizes agricultural irrigators to replace inefficient equipment with new, energy-efficient pumps. The program offers qualified customers a rebate of $10 per horsepower for premium efficiency motor replacements and variable frequency drive upgrades. Customers can receive up to $2,000 per pump. There is no limit on the number of pumps eligible for rebates.
In addition to the pumping program, LMUD offers customers who are replacing diesel-powered pumps a line-extension credit of up to $10,000 for customers transitioning from diesel-powered pumps to energy-efficient electric pumps. The credit is applied to the customer’s account after the line extension is completed. The Economic Development Line Extension Credit is not limited to agricultural customers. Commercial customers who add energy-efficient loads may also be eligible. Some restrictions apply.
Before you begin a project or buy equipment, contact LMUD at (530) 257-4174 for more information and complete program details.
LMUD is committed to supporting our agricultural community through energy-efficient solutions that benefit local businesses and the environment. By upgrading to premium-efficiency pumps or converting from diesel to electric systems, farmers and ranchers can lower operating costs while contributing to a sustainable future.
Our rebate programs are just 1 way we’re working to ensure Lassen County’s agricultural heritage continues to thrive for generations to come.
