Summer in Lassen County

Community events are plentiful, with the return of the Main Street Cruise, Bluegrass Festival, Lassen County Fair, and the Blues and Brews Music Festival returning after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. Living in Lassen County also offers an abundance of activities to keep us entertained throughout the summer and fall. Susanville and the surrounding area is home to many lakes, rivers, streams, and trails, offering opportunities for hiking, kayaking, swimming, and shopping. Here is a short list to guide you in your search for outdoor (and indoor) adventure.

Honey Lake Valley Community Pool

No need to travel far on a hot day to find the coolest spot in Susanville. The Honey Lake Valley Community Pool is at 900 South Street in the heart of town. Offerings include water aerobics, swim lessons, and open swim.

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Volcanoes anyone? Lassen Volcanic National Park is just a short, scenic day trip, with amazing stops along the way. With bubbling, boiling mud pots on one side and year-round glaciers on the other, it is one of the most amazing national parks in the country.

Antelope Lake

To beat the summer heat, grab your kayak and head to Antelope Lake. Just 30 minutes from Susanville and with miles of easy-to-access shoreline, it is the perfect place to launch your vessel and enjoy the natural beauty. There are several overnight campgrounds and many day-use areas.

Susanville Farmers Market

Lassen Land and Trails Trust Susanville Farmers Market is open Saturdays through September. With a variety of vendors—such as handcrafted apparel made by From Joey With Love Boutique (pictured above)—you are bound to find treasures. The market is in Historic Uptown Susanville on Pancera Plaza. There is live music too.

Susanville Ranch Park

If hiking, trail riding, and mountain biking are your thing, check out Susanville Ranch Park, located behind Meadow View School on Paiute Lane in Susanville. The park features miles of groomed multiuse trails that are among the finest in Northern California. The park is maintained by Lassen County and is open to all.
