Winter Energy Assistance Rate Program

Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD) is committed to helping customers who may need a little extra help when it comes to their utility bill. The goal is to make sure no one goes without the power they need.

LMUD’s Winter Energy Assistance Rate (WEAR) provides assistance to income-qualified customers who may have difficulty paying their utility bills.

WEAR helps with energy used October through April, when bills tend to be higher than normal. Customers who qualify for the program receive a 50% discount on the first 1,500 kilowatt-hours used per month.

The application process for WEAR is relatively simple and can be completed in just a few minutes. Applications are accepted beginning October 1. The WEAR application and income guidelines on our website, lmud.org.

If you or someone you know qualifies for WEAR, please contact the LMUD office at (530) 257-4174. In addition to the LMUD website, applications are available at the LMUD office and Lassen Economic Development Corp. in Westwood.

Once a completed application is received by LMUD staff, the information is reviewed and the application is either accepted and given a priority status or denied and sent back to the applicant. If the application is rejected due to missing or incomplete information, it may be resubmitted after corrections are made.
