Lassen MUD Plans Meter Inspections

When was the last time you saw a Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD) meter reader in your backyard? It’s probably been a while because LMUD finished the automated meter infrastructure project at the end of 2019.

The multi-year project, which began in 2015, replaced traditional meters in our service territory with automated meters. After the last meter was replaced, there was no longer the need for field personnel to enter your yard and read your meter. Reads are now delivered to LMUD via powerline carrier technology, streamlining the process and providing more accurate data to you and to LMUD.

Although the meter reading process is automated, we still need to occasionally inspect the meters to make sure they are operating within proper parameters, safely and efficiently. That is why we will be conducting meter inspections this year. Soon you will be seeing our AMI technician in your neighborhood.

Technicians are easy to identify. They wear LMUD logo gear, drive an LMUD truck and carry their LMUD identification badge.

Here are a few things you can do to help the techs do their jobs quickly and safely:

  • Make sure your meter is easily accessible and clear from debris
  • If possible, secure your pets away from the meter – We all love dogs, but not all dogs love people
  • Having a clear line of sight to the meter is important – If your meter is blocked from view, please move any equipment, wood piles, or other items
  • Lastly, please cooperate by allowing our personnel on your property – Our techs appreciate your patience and understanding

If you are curious about the meter inspections, please give us a call at (530) 257-4174. We do not have a set schedule at this time. We can explain the process and answer any questions you have.
