Apply Today for LMUD’s Winter Energy Assistance Rate Program (WEAR)

Lassen Municipal Utility District is committed to helping customers who may need a little extra help when it comes to their utility bills. The goal is to ensure no one goes without the power they need.

LMUD’s Winter Energy Assistance Rate helps income-qualified customers who may have difficulty paying their utility bills.

WEAR helps with energy used October through April, when bills can be higher than normal. Customers who qualify for the program receive a 50% discount on the first 1,500 kilowatt-hours used per month.

The application process for WEAR is simple and can be completed in just a few minutes. Applications are accepted beginning October 2. The WEAR application and income guidelines are at lmud.org. You can also fill out the application online and upload your supporting documents.

If you or someone you know qualifies for WEAR, contact the LMUD office at (530) 257-4174. In addition to the LMUD website, applications are available at the LMUD office and Lassen Economic Development Corp. in Westwood. You may also request an application be mailed to you.

Once LMUD staff receives a completed application, they review the information, and the application is either accepted or denied and sent back to the applicant. If the application is rejected due to missing or incomplete information, it may be resubmitted after the corrections are made. If your application is accepted, you will not receive an acceptance letter. You may give us a call to confirm, or look for the credit applied to your next bill.

WEAR offers 50% discount on the first 1500 kilowatt-hours per month from November through April for Cycle 02 billing dates and December through May statements for Cycle 01. Maximum assistance is $142.50.

This program is subject to change as necessary by LMUD. Funding for this program is not to exceed the amounts allocated by the 2023/24 board-approved budget. Decisions regarding application approvals or denials are final.
