Manager’s Message – December 2022

Strategic Plan and Board Elections

As 2022 comes to an end, the Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD) team is busy with year-end planning and project management. This effort includes our LMUD/NV Energy Interconnection, a project I have discussed this year. However, the NV Energy intertie isn’t the only important project we have worked on.

Strategic Plan

Recently, we completed a strategic plan to help our board, staff and customers.

Our strategic plan starts with a vision statement: “Connecting and supporting the community we serve by providing safe, reliable and sustainable service.”

We thought long and hard about what these words mean to us and our customers.

  • Safe: We promise our facilities meet or exceed industry safety standards. Our staff’s commitment to safety is second to none. We recently celebrated 1,000 consecutive days without a lost time accident.
  • Reliable: Our customers’ No. 1 priority is reliable service. We are making great strides in this area. An example is the Skedaddle Substation project.
  • Sustainable: We promise to perpetuate and sustain the values and goals of the community we serve.

In 2023, our communications team will present the strategic plan to service groups, government agencies and other community- minded organizations. If you would like to have the strategic plan presented to your group, call Public Relations Manager Theresa Phillips at (530) 257-4174.

Skedaddle Substations & NV Energy Interconnection Projects Update

We are on schedule with construction of our Skedaddle Substation and NV Energy Interconnection projects. Major equipment has been bid and pricing obtained in line with earlier estimates. We will bring these bid proposals to the board for review and approval at the next several meetings. Delivery lead times for transformers and large electrical substation circuit breakers are long. However, we will receive equipment in late 2023 and early 2024. This will allow project completion near its planned in-service date of December 2024. There are several supply chain issues that affect our bidders and suppliers. Fortunately, with their experience and LMUD’s expertise, we will work around many of these issues. We will update as progress continues.

Board Election

This election cycle, LMUD had 2 board of director’s seats up for election. Public power has as its strengths, a not-for-profit business model, and local governance and control of the utility through the election of members of a 5-member board of directors. 2 incumbent board members Steve “Jess” Urionaguena representing Ward 3, and Howard “Bud” Bowden representing Ward 2 were re-elected to their positions on November 8th. This locally elected board is, again, one of the strengths that allows LMUD to conduct business with the commitment to customer service and other priorities that are communicated directly to our board, and management by our customers. I want to thank all of the voting public for participating in the recent election for these board of director’s seats.

On behalf of myself, the LMUD Board of Directors and our staff, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season. Our offices are closed Friday, December 23; Monday, December 26; and Monday, January 2. As always, you can reach us around the clock at (530) 257-4174.
